IMG_0680Hello! I am Courtney Gorman, a PhD candidate in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I am a member of Joe Bailey‘s community and ecosystem genetics lab.

I am interested in determining the drivers of endemism in the trailing edge of species range shifts, with particular focus on edaphic endemics in the southeastern United States. For my dissertation, I am using a combination of field and greenhouse experiments to explore how edaphic endemics differ (functionally and ecologically) from their most closely related congeners, and what roles hybridization and plant-soil feedbacks play in the divergence of these species into harsh environments.
